VectorBase workshop and talk @ Entomol 7 and MedTrop 2018

We are invited to the 54th Brazilian Congress of Tropical Medicine (MEDTROP, click here for details.) and to its satellite meeting Entomol7 (click here for details.). We will participate with a talk and a VectorBase workshop.

Both the VectorBase workshop and the talk will be in English.

VectorBase Hands-on Workshop

September 2, 2018

Mar Hotel

Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil

Instructor

Official language

The official language of the workshop will be English. The handout material is in English too, excellent listening and reading proficiency in this language is expected.

About the workshop

VectorBase is a Bioinformatics Resource Center (BRC) focused on invertebrate vectors of human pathogens. This BRC currently hosts sequence data from 40 genomes. VectorBase also provides transcriptomic, proteomic and population biology data from colony and field specimens for an even broader selection of species. The goal of this one-day workshop is to offer the opportunity to scientists working in medical entomology and vector biology, hands-on practical sessions with VectorBase data, tools and resources.

Below you will find a link to apply. If you are accepted to participate, via email you will receive information about the required pre-workshop homework. The assignment may include: short videos (of up to 15 min each) with a few questions to asses your understanding of them; omics background questions; or other activities to asses your understanding of some key points. The homework is not optional because is meant to provide you with an introduction and foundation to the material to be covered during the workshop, which will facilitate to start the work and discussion on site. During the day of the workshop, we aim to provide opportunities for hands-on activities, discussions and practice exercises, for each of the tools and topics listed in the agenda below.

The outcome of this training relies heavily on your dedication and effort, which includes the time invested before and during the workshop. After the workshop, you are invited to send follow up questions to the instructor, via info@vectorbase.org.
